Illustration
Illustration can be used as a powerful tool to convey an idea. These images were illustrated as part of a testing asset for ideas generate during a Design Sprint.
The illustration, accompanied by a short descriptive text enables the design team help both the client and testers visualise the idea and give feedback on it, making the iterative process much quicker and more efficient.
These can also be used to help team get approval for larger projects with minimal initial outlay.
Personal Illustration Projects
Navigating Storytelling was created to show the elements of a great story. Using the map area around the agency where I worked and its landmarks, tying the two together, implying that we know how to craft a great story.
Cempaka Days tells the story of my childhood school Sri Cempaka and life growing up in Malaysia. This map was created for fellow Cempakans as a nostalgic keepsake using queues we would all be familiar with.
School started at 0815 sharp, after which we would all head to the padang (field) to play football and buy snacks from the rotiman (bread and snack man) or the Mamak stalls for a bite to eat. Other familiar landmarks were the mosque which would sound the call to prayer on a Friday and Hock Lees, the grocer.
Chinese New Year 2023 is the year of the Rabbit. This illustration was designed for the traditional ‘hong pao’ given as a symbol of good luck during this time of year.
The design features a rabbit carrying a basket of fish, representing abundance with a medallion with the symbol for health on its chest. Two kumquats at its feet are symbols for prosperity.
May the year of the rabbit be a happy, healthy one! Huat Ahh!!
3D modelling
Illustrating in 3D opens up many opportunities to create exciting visuals. ‘Sitting at the Dock’ depicts a Japanese style inspired frog contemplating life as he sits by the waters’ edge surrounded by morning glory flowers.
The image was made using a combination of techniques, including procedural modelling and texturing.
